She’s also studying above grade level in the Kumon Reading Program, and can say she has already analyzed pieces of literature, such as Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird before even entering middle school. Having been enrolled in Kumon for five years, Suhani is experiencing the true benefits of the Kumon Method, especially self-learning. “So far, I can say that becoming a self-learner has been one of the most beneficial takeaways,” said Suhani. “I sometimes notice my peers in school struggling with certain concepts, while I am able to figure out challenging problems on my own.” Gaining her independence has also carried over into improving her focus and discipline, which she applies in her extracurricular activities. Her discipline and focus will help her achieve her future aspiration of becoming a surgeon one day. Suhani is an accomplished pianist and is proud to say that she has passed the Yamaha ABRSM Grade 1 Exam. ABRSM is the UK’s largest music education body, specializing in graded exams for musicians around the world. Elements of the challenging exam include highly accurate playing of three pieces, scales and broken chords, sight-reading, and aural tests. With a love for competition, Suhani participated and won a robotics competition in the FIRST Lego League Robotics Challenge (FLL) with her team. The FLL seeks bright young students to research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc. and develop a solution. The solutions developed by teams include basic STEM applications, critical thinking, presentation skills, and creativity. Suhani’s many accomplishments were recognized, as she was one of 55 students selected to attend the 2018 Kumon Student Conference in Calgary, Canada. We had the opportunity to speak to Suhani about her Kumon journey. How has Kumon helped you academically? Academically, Kumon has helped me improve my math and reading skills in so many ways. I really enjoy how much my Instructor encourages me in the center. I always look forward to our center’s student awards ceremony, which keeps me motivated throughout the year. How has Kumon helped you outside of the classroom? Outside of the classroom, Kumon has really helped me improve my time management. With the right plans, you can get more work done than expected. I have also learned to focus more, which helps me with my swim meets and piano recitals. If you could sum up your Kumon experience in one word, what would it be? Opportunity. What did it mean to you attending the Student Conference? Attending the Student Conference was a great opportunity to learn from other Kumon Students who are just like me. I had the opportunity to share my knowledge, and gain insight from others. I really enjoyed making friends from all over Canada, Mexico, and the United States. What advice do you have for other Kumon Students? When you first enroll in Kumon, you start out swimming upstream, and it will be challenging at times. When it becomes challenging, don’t give up. A Brief History of A Cappella

A Brief History of A Cappella Sign up successful A Cappella Variations While artists and a cappella groups continue to perform their music without instruments, many of them through the years have begun creating instrument sounds with their voices to complement the words.  An excellent example of this style is the beatbox, which is very popular in rap and in hip hop, where many of the songs are performed without use of musical instruments. A Cappella Lives On In 2009, NBC aired the popular show The Sing-Off, which featured several different a cappella groups who competed for a cash prize and a recording contract.  The show returned for additional seasons because of its popularity. The hit television series Glee is a good example of yet another television show that supports the performance of a cappella music.  Many of the songs that have been performed on the show, by the New Directions or one of their rival singing groups, are done a cappella or with a cappella elements to them. It will be interesting to see how this incredible genre of music continues to evolve and transform the music world.  Its a beautiful form of musical expression that deserves to be celebrated and recognized as it has been for many years! 5 Tips to Ease the Transition from Business School to the Business World

5 Tips to Ease the Transition from Business School to the Business World Congratulations! You have successfully earned your MBA, and you are now ready to move into the true business world. But life after business school might not be as easy as you think. Translating your higher education into the day-to-day realities of your new career can prove challenging for any individual. Here are five ways that you can make your transition from business school to the business world a smooth one, and these tips on how to master an interviewmay be useful as well. 1. Learn from your coworkers Your corporation may have a different culture than the one that you enjoyed during your MBA program. Besides potentially hosting fewer social events, your company may also have a workforce with an increased diversity of backgrounds, habits, and expectations. Depending on your position, you may no longer be surrounded by a group of colleagues who are just like you. Do not begin your tenure by trying to prove yourself with your MBA. Instead, listen and learn from the people around you. While you sat in business school analyzing cases, your coworkers were in the field living them. Their valuable experiences could provide insight into your projects and responsibilities. 2. Find other alumni There will be days when you are sitting at your desk, and you start remembering the good times you had as an MBA student attending the last tailgate on campus, traveling for the class consulting trip, or working all night on that case competition. Instead of reminiscing about days gone by on your own, satisfy your nostalgia for student life by seeking out other colleagues who also attended your business school or your undergraduate school. If you cannot find any alumni at your company, you may be able to find them in your general area. Many colleges and universities have officially-sponsored alumni gatherings in major cities. These networking skillscan be very useful after graduation as well. 3. Find other MBAs Whether they graduated from the same programor attended business school on the other side of the world, MBAs know other MBAs. Even if they do not necessarily work in the same department or think in the same way, people who went to business school share a common language. This camaraderie can be very welcome as you transition from business school to the business world. 4. Lean on your family and friends After watching you muddle through your rigorous program, and celebrating when you came out the other side, your loved ones may now get to spend more time with you. Let your family and friends know about the struggles you are encountering due to your transition. Allow them to provide a sense of normalcy, even if you are in a completely different place than where you started. 5. Remember why you went to business school Now is the time to reap the fruits of your labor. Use your advanced education to the best of your ability and recognize that even though not every aspect of your MBA is applicable to your current position, your degree has positioned youto take advantage of career opportunities that were not previously available to you. Moving on from business school can be difficult, but it does not have to be impossible. As you embark on your adventure as a new graduate who has grown both older and wiser since you were last in the workplace, use these tips to help youadapt during your return to the business world.

Italian probably isn’t as difficult as you think it is.In fact, over half of English vocabulary is of Latin or French origin. This means half of English vocabulary shares its roots with Italian vocabulary’s roots. When you learn a new word, you should pop it on a post-it note.  As long as your family, partner, or flatmates don’t mind, you can put them all over the house. Th is is particularly useful for everyday objects which you can label in both English and Italian. This can help you learn everyday vocabulary without even thinking about it.How Can You Learn Italian Easily? As we said before, thanks to the Latin roots, Italian vocabulary has a lot in common with a lot of English words. This means that you can often guess what the words mean. You can often understand a sentence without understanding every single word in it.  However, be careful! If you already speak another Romance language, it can make things difficult. Since the languages are similar in a certain respect, it can lead to you getting confused. For example, “la puerta” (the door) in Spanish is “la porta” in Italian. Your brain can quickly confuse these two. Being good in one language won’t automatically lead you to being amazing in the other.Get some rest! When it comes to learning, taking a break and resting is important for cementing memories. If you don’t sleep enough, it can have a negative effect on your learning.Of course, the easiest way to learn Italian is to go to Italy. Make the most of your days off to jet to Italy. In just three months, you can learn enough to chat to the locals.  Immersion is the best way to work on your pronunciation, too. Don’t forget you can also visit some unforgettable landscapes. It also will look great on your CV!
